Right now, once a candidate applies, they can't withdraw their application if they don't feel comfortable moving forward.

Something like, "not interested again" might be helpful.

Rowland, thanks for the feedback. Totally see some of the nuances here and how we could make this easier.

A few notes:

FYI, even if a company "accepts" your application on a Lean Hire project. It is still up to the candidate and company to create a contract scoping out the work together. You are not legally bound to work together prior to scoping out and agreeing to a contract.
You can also communicate that your status has changed and that you're unable to move forward with a project via a message to the project creator.
